Hey, Dennis -- you just got past a major hurdle and so it's recreation
time, not time to crank the pressure up further. Don't worry about
keeping up with peirce-l until after you've gotten things spaced out
again in a way you can live with. We will still be here, moving with
all deliberate slowness, and doubtless ready to go back earlier if
necessary, We don't put much stock in Descartes here, but he was no
slouch as a philosopher, and he said that he only put in a few hours a
year in first-order thought (doing metaphysics, grounding science
apodictically, stuff like that), a few hours a day in second-order
thinking (easy stuff like doing mathematical physics), and the rest of
the time he just relaxed and enjoyed the life of the ordinary person,
and he urged his followers to do the same so they wouldn't suffer from
premature burn-out (I reword him slightly here ;-) ). It is true that
with that attitude he would never have gotten tenure, but you don't have
to worry about that yet! And wasn't it Bill Overcamp himself who talked
about smelling the flowers?

Joe

To his family and friends.
I mourn in silence (as a 48 year old, with a wife and three children),
valuing his comments and personality that came through this white screen.
Good-bye Tom and thank you.

George
